Hoitenga thanks Trump for ice storm aid for Northern Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Michele Hoitenga expressed her gratitude on Thursday to President Donald Trump for the additional federal emergency aid to support Northern Michigan communities still recovering from last year’s devastating ice storm.

“The people of rural Michigan are incredibly resilient, but many are still navigating the challenges left in the wake of this historic storm,” said Hoitenga, R-Manton. “At a time when our region often feels overlooked, President Trump’s announcement is a much-welcomed reminder that we matter, and I am truly thankful for his support.”

Federal Emergency Management Agency funding was previously approved for ice storm recovery, but it excluded utilities and personal reimbursements. Trump’s announcement of additional funds follows Michigan’s appeal of these exclusions.

“While this federal funding is vital, it’s evident that additional resources are needed, and much more work still lies ahead,” Hoitenga said. “We must use the lessons learned from these catastrophic events to strengthen our preparedness for the future. I am dedicated to collaborating with local leaders, fellow legislators and the governor to advance these proactive initiatives.”
